Scanning format A4

As European I need to scan and copy (i use Epson smart panel) A4 format
which is longer than the US letter. Or my Epson 1240U scans only the US
letter standard, even if the printer output settings allow A4. Is there some
software or firmware upgrade/update to allow the scanner to permit A4
scanning?
I would appreciate any help

Set your Printer Driver to A4 paper. The Epson smart panel reads the Printer
setting for the max scan size when copying.
