HP 4670v Scanner

All of a sudden, a vertical band appears on the scanned output.
It is about 2" from the left margin, and about 1" wide
How do I get rid of it?

Probably dirt on the scanning element, but could be (less commonly)
defective pixels in the scanning element. A good disassemly and
cleaning will fix a problem caused by dirt/dust. If the sensor has
developed bad pixels, you are pretty much out of luck.
