hp3970 - Director Software Sucks

I recently bought an hp3970 to replace my old hp5100C which was
starting to skip lines.

The "Director" software accompanying the hp3970 is possibly the worst
software I have ever seen. I can't seem to get the marvelous copy
performance and contrast control of the old hpcopy program.

Does anyone know of replacement software with better performance?

There's really not much 3rd party out there except VueScan and
SilverFast.
See if VueScan supports your model at hamrick.com

Also, comp.periphs.scanners is best group to post in, these two are
pretty dead.
