Epson 2480 - buttons

I've lost the use of the buttons on the front panel of my Epson 2480.
I could tap the left one and it would run Epson Scan, and the right
would run SmartPanel.

I've now also lost the middle two! Clicking one of those *did* bring
up a menu, asking me what program I wanted to associate with that
button. I assigned Epson Scan. (Did the same for the remaining
button.) None now do anything, and of course I cannot re-assign.

Any help would be appreciated please.

I have a similar problem with the Epson 3490 scanner. None of the buttons
have ever worked. Epson acknowledges the problem, but has no solution.

A couple thoughts: Launch the Smart Panel utility, then using the drop
down menu on the bottom left assign the green button to which ever program
you'd like. If you are using XP, launch control panel, scanners & cameras,
then right click the Espon 2480, choose properties, events, then select the
button (event) and assign one in the actions box.

Juan: Thanks for the suggestion. This is also what Epson first suggested.

Unfortunately, the events you want to associate with the buttons do not
appear in the list of available actions.

For example, one of the buttons is supposed to initiate a "copy" action
using the scanner and your printer. The Epson copy utility is not in the
action list, so it cannot be associated with the "Copy" button.

Apparently the Epson 3490 scanner was released to the market before its
time.
